Occupational therapy services are provided to MECDHH students from Birth to 12th grade. Children in the Parent-Infant-Toddler and Preschool programs qualify for occupational therapy if they are delayed developmentally in areas of fine and/or gross motor and self-care. Services are available for students in K-12 whose neurological and/or orthopedic needs impact their ability to participate fully in their academic endeavors.

A referral for services must be made by one of the Pupil Evaluation Team members. The occupational therapist then screens and determines the appropriateness of an evaluation or provides consultative services to teachers and/or parents.

If an evaluation is completed, the OT then develops a treatment program, which may include direct treatments or consultation to team members. At times, it may be appropriate to seek input from a practitioner with a particular area of expertise, whether another occupational therapist or a physical or speech/language therapist.
