Teacher of the Deaf: High School
This is a full-time, 185-day school year teacher position for MECDHH/Governor Baxter School for the Deaf students attending Portland High School.

This is professional education work in teaching Deaf and hard of hearing students. Work decisions are made within school policies and guidelines as well as principles and best practices of the teaching profession. The teacher is responsible for:

Integrating classroom instruction with the school's curriculum

Formative assessment to determine educational levels
*
Developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
*
Evaluating and reporting on student progress toward IEP and academic goals
*
Supporting students enrolled in mainstream classes including pre- and/or post-teaching of material
*
Communicating with parents and staff about student progress
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree and educational background in Deaf Education. Masters Degree in Deaf Education preferred
Experience working with parents of children with special needs
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
Knowledge of a variety of language modalities
Ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals
Certification or eligibility for certification as a K-12 Teacher of the Deaf in Maine
Ability to implement bilingual techniques
Fluency in American Sign Language and understanding of Deaf Culture
Knowledge of Special Education Laws

Salary:

$30,488 - $46,709 Bachelors Degree; $33,093 - $49,476 Masters Degree - annually dependent on qualifications and experience
