Educational Bill of Rights
On May 23rd and May 24th, 2007, Maine's Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs heard public testimony and conducted a work session on LD#1901, The Educational Bill of Rights for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children:

On May 24th, at the work session, the Committee voted unanimously to resolve to study the feasibility of such a bill and instructed The Maine Educational Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and The Department of Education to form a group to study this issue and report back with recommendations no later than January 31, 2007: Resolve Chapter 94; Resolve, To Analyze the Feasibilty of Establishing and Education Bill of Rights for Deaf and Hard-of-hearing Children:

This group, comprised of deaf educators, special education directors, and administrators in education from throughout the state, met on September 20, 2007 at the State House to begin work on the recommendations the Committee requested.

The following form will be used by sub-committees to report back to the full group at its second meeting on November 15, 2007. Once these sub-committees reports are in and approved by the full group, a final report will be drafted and posted on this site.
